What happens to 'me' when I sleep? - Post 6

"Well, Prof. Earlshaw, now that you are visiting for a longer stay, I think it would be great to really sort out our correspondence and extract the grains of truth embedded in them," I suggested.

"Of course, of course, we must," he agreed, "In fact, my students have been urging me to do so. One of them has taken certain parts of my work, that I mentioned to you last year, for his thesis work, much against my warning that he would perhaps not be able to build up a sensible career on it. He insists that he cares too hoots for a career. Apparently, he has been working on setting up an internet business in parallel that promises him adequate financial support apart from the funding from the university. He prefers to work on his passion independent of formal support. He claims this is the conceptual era and one ought to be able to work on what gives meaning rather than for survival."

"That's great to know, Prof. Earlshaw," I said.

"Yes, it is indeed heartening to see so many young people turning their backs to the survival traps so common during our times," he said. "So this student of mine has taken up my ideas on OBE quite seriously and conducting experiments of his own kind."
